After 18 years, founders Torsten Klein and Tobias Fischer are retiring from it-economics to take on new challenges. Klaus Wiedemann becomes the new CEO. In addition, the management team will be complemented by Stefan Schmid, Partner at it-economics, and Frédéric Munch, Head of Sopra Steria Next, the management consulting division of parent company Sopra Steria.
“When we founded the company in 2003, we never dreamed that we would be able to steadily build it-economics up to over 240 employees at seven locations, with positive development year after year. With the acquisition by Sopra Steria, we were able to further expand our strengths in IT and methodology consulting as an independent subsidiary. 2020 was – despite Corona – our most successful year,” says Torsten Klein. “Thus, after 18 years with the coming of age of it-economics and the sustained course of success, now is the right time for me to hand over the baton. it-economics has been a defining part of my life, but now it excites me to begin a new chapter.”
New management with Klaus Wiedemann, Stefan Schmid and Frédéric Munch
The new CEO is Klaus Wiedemann, who joined it-economics four years ago. He has known the company founders since a joint project more than twenty-five years ago and worked very closely with Stefan Schmid even then. As a partner, the latter has played a key role in shaping the fortunes of it-economics for more than 15 years and is now also moving up to the new management team.
“I am very pleased that Torsten and the partner group of it-economics unanimously proposed me as successor as CEO when the handover of the baton was discussed last year, and that our shareholder at Sopra Steria also expressed their confidence in me,” said Klaus Wiedemann. “I realize that we have big shoes to fill. I think I speak for all colleagues when I say: thank you very much for the remarkable success story and all the best for the future.”
Closer interlinking of it-economics and Sopra Steria Next
Frédéric Munch, who has been responsible for the Sopra Steria Next strategy unit since 2019, joins the team as the third Managing Director. The closer cooperation with Sopra Steria Next is intended to strengthen the synergies between Sopra Steria and it-economics, which arise in the area of digitalization through the combination of strategy consulting and IT implementation. The two units of Sopra Steria SE already work together successfully in acquisition and customer projects and would like to dovetail even more in this area.
“I am looking forward to strengthening the it-economics team, and to jointly support customers holistically in digitalization. I see the independence of it-economics within the Sopra Steria Group as a great opportunity to achieve synergies in market positioning as well,” says Frédéric Munch.
Marco Klotzbach is new CFO
As part of the new management, there is also a change in the finance department: Tobias Fischer, another founder of it-economics, has decided to go new ways. “The conversion of our financial reporting from the requirements of an owner-managed company to those of a listed parent company was challenging – this has motivated me once again. Now that this task has been successfully completed for some time, I see the opportunity to retire from the financial area, which I had the privilege of taking over in the course of growth, in the next few months and to take on other challenges again,” Tobias Fischer is pleased to announce. His successor will be Marco Klotzbach. The business graduate with a focus on taxes and auditing has been very familiar with the business of it-economics for years as Deputy Head of Controlling and Business Partner Controlling of the Banking division at Sopra Steria.
